My Improvement Journey – a Masterclass with a Head Teacher

Description:

This session is an opportunity to hear the improvement journey of a school who went from being judged as inadequate with a threat of closure to outstanding in 2 inspections in a row.
Cas Evans has been the headteacher of Parks Primary School since 2001 taking the school on a journey from inadequate with a threat of closure to outstanding in all areas since 2014, maintaining these grades in our recent 2024 inspection. Although proud of this achievement, it is the difference the school has made to the aspirations of our community and the part it has played in developing hardworking, empathetic, polite pupils who have a strong moral compass, that we are most proud of.

Parks Primary School serves an area high deprivation with 44% of our pupils on free school meals. Our school is an area of Leicester considered to be challenging: it is a right wing extremist hot spot, incidents of knife crime and county lines are high, health statistics are poor.
In 2001, the school was 95% white British but over the years we have been fortunate to have an increase in pupils from different countries and faiths with 32% of our pupils now speaking English as an additional language.
As a National Leader of Education, Cas has supported a number of schools in challenging circumstances including those in special measures. She is passionate about school-to-school support and has developed a range of tools to strengthen the systems leadership of teaching and learning.
