Description: 
Play Matters: The 8 Principles of Playwork during the course delegates will explore what Wrap Around Care is and understand the value of play, unpick and dissect the 8 Principles of Playwork, and how to implement them into their setting to ensure play matters. 

During the course delegates will be able to:
  • List the 8 Principles of Playwork.
  • Describe & explain why the 8 Principles of Playwork are important in Play
  • Participate in activities that empower your own understanding of why play matters
  • Identify & explain how the Playwork Principles will be used in your setting.

Audience: Specifically for practitioners working with primary school age children in wraparound provision. Open to both schools / settings who offer wrap around provision (before / after school or holiday clubs)

Cost: The training is fully funded via the National Wraparound Programme, part of the DfE.

Specific non-attendance charge: When delegates do not attend, do not cancel in line with terms & conditions, and / or contact the training team on the day to explain their non-attendance then a charge of £30 + VAT per delegate will be applied
Additional Information: Principles of Playwork
  • Principle 1 - All children and young people need to play.
  • Principle 2 - Play is a process that is freely chosen, personally directed and intrinsically motivated.
  • Principle 3 - The prime focus and essence of playwork is to support the play process, play policy, strategy, training and education.
  • Principle 4 - For playworkers, the play process takes precedence.
  • Principle 5 - The role of the playworker is to support all children and young people in the creation of a space.
  • Principle 6 - The playworker’s response to children and young people playing is reflective practice.
  • Principle 7 - Playworkers recognise their own impact on the play space and the impact of children and young people’s play on the playworker.
  • Principle 8 - All playworker intervention must balance risk with the developmental benefit and well-being of children.
