204 - English Functional Skills (L2)

Description:
This 30 week Functional Skills Level 2 English qualification course is designed to develop your communication skills for the modern world, for future learning and work opportunities.  You will develop reading skills, with a focus on understanding different text types and their meaning. Also, you will improve your overall writing ability by working on articles, blogs, emails, letters, reports, and other written texts.   In addition, spelling, punctuation and grammar are key to Level 2 success and are covered throughout the course.  You will also complete a Speaking, Listening and Communication assessment as part of this qualification.   Our awarding body is City & Guilds.

It requires a high level of commitment. Success relies on the ability to complete a significant amount of homework tasks, attend all taught sessions and to have strong Level 1 English skills.

This qualification  is an alternative to GCSE.  A level 2 pass is equivalent to a Grade 4 pass in GCSE English Language and is an acceptable alternative for the majority of job/course requirements. The qualification is usually taken by those whose first language is English, but learners with fluent skills who speak English as an additional language may also benefit from the course. It is only for learners who do not already have a  GCSE or equivalent pass grade in English (C/ 4  or above) - your learning will be free as a result.

Additional Information:

After you have applied for a place on the course, you will complete BKSB online initial and diagnostic assessments. A tutor will contact you to discuss the course requirements and either offer you a place or signpost you to a more suitable option.

Most of our courses are subsidised either wholly or in part by Adult Skills Funding (ASF). We may not be able to offer you a place on our courses if you're unable to provide us with the required information. We endeavour to continue to provide free and subsidised courses for the people of Worcestershire. We thank you for your cooperation.

Please Note: To enrol on this course you must register your interest first. One of our staff will then contact you to ensure suitability. At which point we will confirm your booking.
