Adverse weather and disruption on the roads - details here (updated 8.45pm)

Worcestershire County Council staff continue to work throughout the night, alongside the emergency services, the Environment Agency and with other partners to reduce the risks to residents from the floods caused by unprecedented rainfall.
The Leader of the Council, Councillor Simon Geraghty and the Chief Executive Paul Robinson are fully involved in the flooding situation that is affecting the County. They have authorised the use of County Council resources to be used to assist the multi-agency response. Residents can be assured that teams from the County Council are working on the ground to deal with highways issues and are providing support to other services where required.
As in all situations of this type residents are advised to closely monitor the developing situation via official media announcements and via the County Council’s social media channels and respond to any information provided.
Areas of Worcestershire continue to experience flooding with many roads closed across the county. Although in some areas river levels are dropping, they are set to rise again over the next few hours, peaking during the evening. Major incidents have been declared in both counties.

There are currently two severe flood warnings, meaning danger to life, for the Tenbury Wells area and two for the Ludlow area. Roads around Tenbury are virtually all impassable, with the only road open via Leysters.

Please do not venture close to swollen rivers and only go out if you absolutely have to.

The Environment Agency, West Mercia Police, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, local authorities and ambulance service are working together and residents in some areas may be evacuated this afternoon. We currently understand around 130 properties have been flooded in Tenbury and evacuations are taking place.

Flood barriers are in place throughout the region and more may be erected later today as necessary. Please avoid all unnecessary travel. Updates will continue on social media.
