Transitions: Session One: Tools for planning an effective transition

Description:
This online workshop is for educational professionals and will present a range of helpful tools for planning school transitions.

Transitions are stressful and can be particularly hard for children who have experienced early adversity. Their sense of security is directly challenged and we often see children reverting to earlier patterns of behaviour when a transition is coming up. Early planning and preparation can have a very significant impact on how well the child will manage.

During this session we will cover:
  • What do transitions involve?
  • Why are they so difficult for children who have experienced attachment disruption?
  • Impact - emotions, behaviours and daily life
  • Tools for educators in planning an effective transition  What factors to take into account
  • How to prepare the child and network
  • What can supporting adults do?
  • The benefits of a child specific plan
