This course is designed to support hearing school staff who have Deaf parents of hearing children in their setting.
Research shows that culturally Deaf parents (those who view their deafness as a cultural and linguistic identity rather than a disability) experience difficulties accessing their children’s education due to a lack of understanding about Deafness and about best practice for communication and collaboration with Deaf parents.
This training will provide attendees with information about Deaf culture and will discuss guidelines and recommendations regarding how to promote effective meaningful collaborative partnerships with Deaf parents of hearing children.
